About the Role
This role is about the development of high-quality end to end processes for the energy trading function at ZEN and integrating information systems into those processes.
The role will lead and co-ordinate the ongoing design, development and documentation of business processes and procedures across all aspects of ZEN’s energy trading business including trading, risk management, compliance, forecasting, analytics and settlements. The role will take responsibility for requirements gathering and functional specification for enhancements to systems and will provide expertise in the configuration and use of the company’s energy trading and risk management systems.
Given that ZEN is fundamentally an energy trading company, this role is pivotal to the ongoing success of ZEN in leading Australia into a more sustainable energy future.
What we will ask of you:
- Business Process Design, Development and Documentation
- Work with key stakeholders in front, middle and back office of the energy trading business to:
- Understand and document existing business processes.
- Identify gaps in existing business processes and design new processes, modify existing processes and document.
- Gather requirements for new software systems or system enhancements including reports, automated processes, data capture and analytical tools. Map these requirements into functional specifications.
- In some cases, write the necessary documents, and in other cases, review the documents of others.
- Review processes (existing and new) on an ongoing basis to ensure a high level of quality considering various attributes such as efficiency, effectiveness, simplicity and robustness.
- Co-ordinate workshops for design processes that are complex or span multiple teams.
- Identify business value and business risk associated with process improvement and help business prioritize improvement initiatives accordingly.
- Undertake or participate in post incident reviews to identify required process improvements.
- Support others in documentation writing with guidance and review.
- Define and maintain standards and templates for documents.
- Maintain the location and indexing of documents.
- Where required, support the business in definition of roles and responsibilities.
Systems Analysis
Building on the design and documentation of business processes, the role will ensure the ongoing effectiveness of ZEN’s information systems in support of energy trading functions by:
- Gathering the requirements for new or enhanced system functions.
- Mapping those requirements to functional specifications including where needed definition of sample test cases and data.
- Working with developers or vendors to map the requirements and functional design to solutions.
- Support end users with acceptance testing of new or enhanced software functions.
- Support user groups to help prioritize system enhancement work.
- Where new solutions may be provided by external vendors, support the procurement process as required including:
- Analysis of market opportunities.
- Development of request for information or similar documents.
- Support vendor evaluation and selection processes.
- System Configuration and Expertise
- Work with the business owners to ensure that energy trading and risk management systems are appropriately configured for required use.
- Support business users with efficient and effective use of systems by developing expertise in key systems, seeking support from vendors as appropriate.
Scope
The business scope of the role will include:
All functions for wholesale energy trading including:
- trading of derivatives (energy, weather), PPAs, certificate products
- physical market operations such as dispatch of solar and wind farms and BESS assets
- trading analytics
- risk analytics
- forecasting
- compliance
- settlements.
Interfaces between wholesale energy trading and related business units including:
- retail transfer pricing and operations
- asset management.

Education and Qualifications
• A degree in an appropriate field.
Experience
• Five or more years of experience in business or system analysis role
• Two or more years of experience in wholesale energy trading functions
Technical Skills
• An excellent knowledge of the energy trading domain including:
o Energy derivatives
o Environmental certificates
o NEM operation
o Forecasting
o Energy risk management
o Settlements
• System analysis skills include:
o An ability to breakdown complex problems into smaller problems
o An ability to disambiguate solutions from requirements
o An ability to define processes in terms of inputs, outputs and processes
o An ability to model information as logical entities and their relationships
• Excellent communication skills in writing, speaking and listening
• Capability in SQL and Python (desirable)
