About the role:
Join headspace Emerald as a Youth Peer Worker – First Nations (Identified) and help create a culturally safe, welcoming space for First Nations youth to access mental health and wellbeing support.
In this unique role, you’ll use your lived experience to build trust, foster cultural pride, and encourage young people to engage with headspace services. You’ll work in a non-clinical capacity, supporting group programs, community events, and transitions in and out of care.
What will a typical day look like?
- Support First Nations young people through culturally appropriate peer engagement.
- Co-design and co-facilitate programs and group activities within the centre.
- Promote headspace services and First Nations programs at community events.
- Collaborate with the Community Engagement Worker and broader team.
- Uphold high standards of privacy, cultural safety, and professional practice.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Certificate IV in Youth Worker/Community Services or equivalent orworking toward this qualification (proof of enrolment required).
- Relevant peer experience

headspace is Australia’s National Young Mental Health Foundation, providing early intervention mental health services to 12 -25-year-olds. With a focus on early intervention, we work with young people to provide support at crucial times in their lives – to help get them back on track and strengthen their ability manage their mental health in the future.
What you will bring to the role:
- A passion and genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of Central Queenslanders.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
- The ability to identify and embed solutions.
- Demonstrated experience working within a high-performance framework where you are accountable for KPIs on program delivery and outcomes, within a face-paced solutions focussed environment.
- Effective time management and organisational skills.
- A strong communicator, able to quickly build rapport and influence across a diverse range of people.
Other Requirements:
- Full COVID-19 Vaccination
- Ability to obtain a Blue Card (working with children check positive notice or exemption)
- Ability to obtain a Yellow Card (disability services positive notice or exemption notice)
