About the role
You will work in consultation with the Managing Lawyer to coordinate litigation and court appearances involving the Grants and Quality Assurance (GQA) team in VLA including allocating matters to GQA practitioners, appearing in court, and briefing/instructing external lawyers and/or counsel as appropriate.

You will also prepare legal advice, present training, exercise delegated decision making and perform other duties associated with the provision of legal assistance under the supervision of the Managing Lawyer.

You will supervise the legal work of GQA practitioners who are subject to a supervision requirement on their Practising Certificate.

This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country.

About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience appearing in court and making submissions.
  • Experience in administrative law, including demonstrated ability to identify and advise on key administrative decision-making issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to use plain language to effectively communicate with a range of audiences.
  • Previous experience in mentoring and supervising the work of junior legal practitioners.
  • A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner including supervising legal practitioners (mandatory)
