Flourish Australia has an exciting opportunity for a Peer Worker to join our Tamworth team.

The position available is:

Casual

Working a rotating roster including weekend, evening and night shifts

Based in Tamworth, working within our Accommodation team

Attractive hourly rates equivalent to $38.65-$41.45/hour + Super + 25% Casual Loading

About the Opportunity

As a Peer Worker with Flourish Australia, your own life experience of a mental health issue and personal recovery will provide a distinct advantage as you mentor and support people with lived experience of a mental health issue.

Peer work is a cornerstone of our services with more than half of our workforce having had a lived experience of a mental health issue. By applying personal experience in mental health, Peer Workers can empathise, support, and inspire people in finding their own path to recovery.

On a day to day basis, you will be required (but not limited to):

Effectively and appropriately hold crucial conversations with people who access our services in order to connect with them, support them and build reciprocity, via mutual understanding, trust and shared experience

Effectively and appropriately guide and support each individual in their recovery and be strengths, ability and possibility focused, whilst ensuring they are the leads in their own recovery journey.

Support the person to make links to the community that meet their recovery wants and needs.

Support the person to access activities and opportunities that promote independence.

Support skill development at every opportunity through self-directed learning, information, training, and education.

Listen to and support people to create opportunities and activities that meet their interests and goals.

Selection Criteria

A Certificate IV or above in a relevant field OR a minimum of 2-years full-time experience working in the human services field (as recognised by Flourish Australia).

A personal lived experience of a mental health issue.

A current Australian Driver’s Licence.

All appointments with Flourish Australia's Mental Health Services are subject to an NDIS Worker Screening clearance, a National Criminal History Check, a WWCC, previous employment reference checks, satisfactory Australian residency status and other background checks.
