About the role – Casual
The Youth Support Worker will work across the Supported Independent Living Services (SILS) and Stability Post Care (SPC) programs, supporting young people aged 16–21 as they transition from care to independent living. SILS provides accommodation and helps 16–17-year-olds under guardianship develop essential life skills, while SPC supports care leavers aged 18–21 to maintain stable housing and successfully move into adulthood. This role focuses on building independence, promoting wellbeing, and offering practical, trauma-informed support through daily assistance, crisis response, case management, and teamwork with other services.
Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:
Supporting young people to develop independent living skills such as budgeting, cooking, and self-care.
Building trusting relationships and providing emotional and practical support using trauma-informed, person-centred approaches.
Responding to crisis situations in a calm, therapeutic manner to ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients.
Maintaining accurate case notes, shift handovers, and effective communication with team members and external stakeholders.
About you:
You are compassionate, reliable, and committed to supporting young people through their transition to independence. With experience working with at-risk youth, you use a trauma-informed approach to build trust and provide meaningful support. You communicate well, work both independently and in a team, and are confident in promoting life skills and positive behaviours that help young people thrive.
You will also have the following skills and experience:
Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Interventions, Youth Work, Community Services, or related field.
Demonstrated ability to work and engage with external stakeholders and agencies.
Previous experience in working with vulnerable and at-risk young people.
Trauma informed base practices.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
