The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Wind Engineer to join our client's technical team in Sydney. The primary purpose of this position is to lead wind evaluation, monitoring, OEM selection, and resource management across a diverse portfolio of renewable energy projects. This role offers the opportunity to be the company's centre point for wind resource, modelling, and assessment while mentoring and developing the broader engineering team.

As a Senior Wind Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across all aspects of wind resource assessment, from initial site evaluation through to final investment decision and beyond. This position is ideal for a technical expert who is passionate about renewable energy and ready to take on a leadership role in driving wind project development.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

• Be the company's centre point for wind resource, modelling, and assessment
• Mentor and develop the team including engineers and development managers
• Ensure the latest software and hardware is in place to enable effective and efficient assessment of resource
• Manage interaction with third parties including consultants working on projects, partners/investors with core interests in key technical metrics, and stakeholders engaged with projects directly
• Oversee interaction of core technical skills within technical team to deliver technical services to projects
• Provide oversight in design and design review of pre-construction assets and implementation of design for construction assets
• Provide technical expertise to advance projects past the Final Investment Decision (FID) stage

Wind Resource and Project Analysis

• Deliver key aspects of technical work related to conducting wind data analysis and high-quality site assessment including wind resource and energy yield assessments using best practice methodologies and software processes
• Assess site conditions, noise, shadow flicker, and constraints
• Design and optimisation of wind turbine layouts based on site constraints and measured wind data
• Integration of site constraints and information into the main project design process
• Work closely with Development Managers to ensure project technical inputs and project planning stages are aligned
• Assess the viability of new wind farm sites through mesoscale analysis
• Support, training, and development of engineers within Technical Team

Wind Monitoring Management

• Plan and supervise wind monitoring campaigns, including planning, maintenance, installation, and decommissioning of masts and remote sensing devices
• Support and opine on wind data reviews for fault identification, fault diagnosis, and reporting related to field-based monitoring equipment
• Conduct remote sensing validations
• Develop wind monitoring campaigns

Other Tasks

• Conduct additional data analysis when required (e.g., related to grid connection)
• Conduct analysis on optimal sizing of hybrid energy systems
• Create GIS files to assist in site design (e.g., slope maps, access track and reticulation layouts, terrain profiles, etc.)
• Create site maps and general reporting

About You
Essential Requirements:

• Degree or equivalent in Engineering
• 5+ years' experience working in renewable energy projects in a similar role
• Experience within the renewable energy/engineering industry
• Knowledge of industry H&S safety policies and CDM
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage own workloads and meet timescales across multiple projects
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to enable effective discussion and transfer of information between team members, contractors, and other stakeholders
• Technical capacity to understand complex renewable system design and the ability to exchange with and understand subject experts
• Current full Driver's Licence

Desirable:

• Experience with wind resource and energy yield assessment software and methodologies
• Proficiency in wind data analysis and site assessment tools
• Experience with GIS and mapping software
• Knowledge of wind turbine technology and OEM selection processes
• Experience with mesoscale analysis and wind monitoring equipment
