The Opportunity

The Specialist Family Violence Integrated Practitioner - CMCOP is a part-time, permanent role based at Frankston, Moorabbin, Sandringham, Cheltenham, Mentone, Ringwood, Dandenong, with flexibility for remote/online work as required – Bunurong and Wurundjeri Land.

This position provides high-quality, brief intervention services to adults using family violence who are subject to Counselling Orders issued by the Magistrates’ Court. Working within Family Life’s Men’s Support Services team, the Practitioner delivers MARAM-aligned risk assessment, safety planning, and individual therapeutic intervention to support clients’ accountability, insight, and readiness to engage in behaviour change interventions.

The role involves managing a caseload of diverse clients, developing tailored intervention plans, and providing counselling and psychoeducation to increase behavioural change readiness, address the use of violence and associated risk factors. The Practitioner liaises closely with the Magistrates’ Court, Family Safety Advocates and other key stakeholders to ensure coordinated, trauma-informed responses.

While the role primarily focuses on individual intervention, there may be opportunities to co-facilitate group-based sessions on an as-needed basis to support program delivery. The Practitioner also prepares timely reports for the Court and represents Family Life in revocation hearings, both online and in person (as required).

Key Responsibility Areas

Conduct comprehensive intake and assessment with clients referred by the Magistrates’ Court, including MARAM risk assessment and safety planning.

Utilise appropriate assessment tools to determine service suitability, identifying and managing risk effectively.

Manage a caseload of diverse adults using family violence who are subject to Court-mandated Counselling Orders.

Deliver tailored individual sessions incorporating psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed practice, and behaviour-change coaching.

Make referrals to relevant support services (AOD, mental health, family dispute resolution etc.) based on client needs.

Provide accurate, timely reports and Court documentation regarding attendance, breaches, and revocations.

Appear on behalf of Family Life before the Magistrates’ Court (online and in person as required).

Maintain compliance with all mandated Court requirements and deadlines.

Continuously review and update safety plans to prioritise the safety of victim-survivors, clients, and the community.

Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and integrated response.

Share risk and safety information in line with MARAM responsibilities.

Participate in reflective practice, supervision, and professional development activities.

Co-facilitate group interventions on an as-needed basis to support continuity of service.

Our Ideal Candidate

You are a skilled and motivated practitioner with experience providing brief, individual interventions to adults using family violence within a legal or specialist family violence context. You demonstrate a sound understanding of the MARAM Framework, the gendered nature of family violence, and how trauma, mental health, and substance use intersect with violent behaviour.

You bring experience conducting comprehensive risk assessments, developing safety plans, and delivering therapeutic, psychoeducational, and motivational interventions that promote accountability and sustainable behaviour change. You are confident engaging clients subject to Counselling Orders, collaborating with the Magistrates’ Court, and working within a multi-agency environment to ensure coordinated and safe responses.

You are reflective, organised, and values-driven, with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a trauma-informed, strengths-based framework.

You will demonstrate:

Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or a related field (meeting Rec 209 minimum qualification requirements).

Proven experience in family violence case management or therapeutic intervention for adults using violence.

Comprehensive knowledge of MARAM, Safe and Together principles, and trauma-informed practice.

Demonstrated capacity to deliver evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT, motivational interviewing, narrative therapy).

Ability to navigate Court and Child Protection systems and manage complex family dynamics.

Excellent communication, collaboration and report-writing skills.

Resilience, curiosity and a growth mindset that supports continuous learning and adaptability.
