The Role
This position sits within Wathaurong’s Homelessness Team and operates in partnership with the Towards Home Plus Team, a joint initiative led by Neami and partnered with Launch Housing, Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, Uniting Vic Tas, Bolten Clarke and Melbourne City Mission.
The Aboriginal Homelessness Assertive Outreach Worker will deliver proactive and assertive outreach to engage and provide a crucial point of first contact, with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people who are homeless or sleeping rough within the Geelong area. As a member of the Towards Home Plus Assertive Outreach Team, The Aboriginal Homelessness Assertive Outreach Worker will engage people who are sleeping rough through street-based outreach and engagement, intensive case management and housing support. The role aims to deliver high intensity, flexible care to community members for the duration of the program including support with:
· Engaging with local community
· Gaining access to clinical health and mental health services.
· Maintaining tenancies through improved daily living skills
About you
Minimum of Certificate IV in Social Housing or relevant; and/or
Experience in working with Aboriginal people experiencing or at risk of homelessness
Demonstrated understanding of social, physical, economical, and cultural strengths and challenges affecting Aboriginal communities and their ability to access adequate and quality services.
Demonstrated understanding of the unique health challenges and social issues faced by the Aboriginal community, including the impacts of alcohol and drug use and homelessness.
A demonstrated understanding of the issues associated with homelessness and their effects on the Aboriginal Community
Demonstrated skills in case management
Good organisation and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi skilled team
Demonstrated ability in working independently and with initiative and as a team member
Understanding of the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organisation in both practice and culture.
Desirable
Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
Qualifications or experience in AOD, Mental Health, Youth Work or equivalent.
