We are seeking an accomplished Business Unit Manager to lead our Newcastle, NSW operations. This senior leadership role is responsible for shaping strategic direction, driving operational excellence, and delivering outstanding support and guidance to our clients and their outcomes across a broad portfolio of projects. The ideal candidate will combine strategic vision with hands-on management, leading a multidisciplinary team to win new work, innovate, and sustain high-quality service delivery. This role exists to bring fresh thinking, modern delivery methods, and local capability to the way we design and deliver projects for our clients across NSW and Australia.

Strategy, Leadership and Governance
- Set and execute the division’s strategic plan aligned with the organisation’s objectives and market realities.
- Lead, mentor and develop a diverse and technical team to achieve performance, succession readiness, and professional growth.
- Oversee budgeting, financial performance, and resource planning to ensure sustainable profitability and service quality.
- Establish governance, risk management, and compliance practices across all activities.

Project and Operations Management
- Direct the delivery of projects, ensuring safety, quality, and timely outcomes.
- Implement efficient processes and continuous improvement initiatives to optimise operations and client satisfaction.
- Allocate resources, manage project portfolio, and monitor performance against targets and risk indicators.
- Ensure adherence to relevant standards and regulatory requirements across all projects.

Business Management and Market Positioning
- Lead development of innovative methodologies and services to strengthen position
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities, building relationships with key stakeholders and potential partners.
- Translate technical outcomes into new or enhanced service offerings, communicating value through technical content, briefings, and presentations.
- Represent the division at industry events to expand reach and attract and retain clients.

Client Engagement and Service Excellence
- Manage and nurture relationships with existing clients through regular updates and demonstrations of value.
- Proactively identify opportunities for additional services, training, and recurring engagements.
- Build and sustain productive relationships with internal colleagues and external partners, industry representatives, and clients.
- Communicate strategic priorities, performance, and risk considerations to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive senior leadership experience in engineering & heavy industry related markets.
- Demonstrated success in strategy development, business development, and P&L ownership.
- Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams and managing complex programs.
- Strong understanding of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and quality management systems.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to operate with autonomy, integrity, and professional judgment.

Desirable Attributes
- Experience in industry, technical, research and consulting environments, translating insights into commercial offerings.
- Local market insight with capability to engage across sectors and geographies.
- Familiarity with ISO standards and continuous improvement methodologies.
