About the role

These roles offer training and professional development opportunities while providing high-quality legal services to vulnerable clients in criminal law, family violence, and family law matters.
Available Roles:
- Criminal Law & Family Violence Lawyer - Provide legal services in criminal law (summary and indictable matters), family violence intervention orders, and family law. This role includes offering early legal help and pre-court resolution services.
- Help Before Court Lawyer (Criminal Law & Family Violence Focus) - Focus on pre-court resolution services, casework, and legal advice, helping clients resolve their issues before their cases go to court.
- Family Law, Family Violence & Child Protection Lawyer - Specialize in family law, family violence, and child protection matters, ensuring clients have the legal support they need.
These roles are based at our Shepparton office on Yorta Yorta and Bangerang Country.
About you
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- A genuine interest in criminal law, family law, family violence, and/or child protection. Newly admitted lawyers are welcome, and training will be provided.
- Ability to confidently represent clients in court, communicate complex legal issues clearly, and advocate effectively on behalf of clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with clients in challenging circumstances, explaining legal matters in simple terms.
- Ability to work well with colleagues and external stakeholders in a collaborative environment.
- A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
- Entitled to practise in federal courts and courts exercising federal jurisdiction (entry on the High Court's Register of Practitioners) (mandatory) - for Family Lawyers.
