Do you adore dogs and want to build a career around your passion? Our client—a growing boutique dog grooming salon in Newcastle—is looking for a caring, reliable and enthusiastic Assistant Dog Groomer to join their small, friendly team.

The salon is expanding rapidly, with a loyal local following and lots of wagging tails through the door. They’re looking for someone who’s ready to grow with the business and become part of a close-knit, dog-loving team.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As an Assistant Dog Groomer, you’ll work under the supervision of experienced groomers, supporting them to deliver calm, safe and high-quality grooming services.

Your day might start with welcoming clients and helping settle dogs in for their appointment. From there, you’ll assist with bathing, drying, brushing, and prepping dogs for their full groom. You’ll learn how to identify different coat types, use salon tools safely, and provide a comforting presence to nervous or excitable pups.

Between appointments, you'll help keep the studio running smoothly by cleaning tools and workspaces, doing towel laundry, restocking products, and supporting the groomers wherever needed.

No two days are the same—you’ll work with different dogs, personalities, and grooming needs, gaining hands-on experience and growing your confidence each step of the way.

Tasks You’ll Assist With:

Bathing dogs using salon-quality products

Blow-drying and brushing out coats

Preparing dogs for grooms: nail trims, ear cleaning, and basic hygiene areas

Handling and calming pets during grooming procedures

Cleaning and maintaining grooming tools and the salon space

Helping with check-ins, client notes, and general customer service

Keeping a calm, safe, and hygienic environment for all dogs

Requirements

What We're Looking For:

A genuine love for dogs and a calm, kind nature

Someone physically fit and comfortable lifting dogs and standing for long periods

A positive, team-focused attitude and willingness to learn

Good communication skills with both people and pets

Experience with animals is great, but not essential—we’ll train the right person!
