About the Role:
The Madden House Cultural Case Manager role is based at a St Kilda Community Housing (SKCH) managed property on Wellington Street, St Kilda. This is a collaborative position between St Kilda Community Housing, Ngwala, and VincentCare, designed to provide culturally specific and holistic support to tenants at Madden House, with the goal of helping them maintain long-term, stable housing.
Madden House is a long-term supportive housing program made up of 26 self-contained one-bedroom units, dedicated to people who have experienced homelessness. All tenancy applications are referred through the City of Port Phillip’s By-Name List (BNL), with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people prioritised for housing placements.
The Aboriginal Case Manger plays a key role in ensuring Aboriginal tenants receive wraparound, culturally safe support that promotes not just housing stability, but also connection to culture, community, and improved overall wellbeing.
This on-site role delivers consistent, strengths-based case management, tailored to the unique goals, needs, and circumstances of each tenant ensuring a respectful and empowering approach to long-term support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Aboriginal tenants at Madden House with culturally safe and holistic case management support to help maintain and sustain long-term housing.
- Collaborate with St Kilda Community Housing (SKCH), Vincent Care, and other support agencies to deliver tailored wraparound support to Aboriginal tenants, applying empathy, cultural understanding, and conflict de-escalation strategies.
- Participate in regular onsite meetings to ensure SKCH, Vincent Care, and Ngwala remain aligned in their service delivery and partnership approach.
- Ensure tenants and prospective tenants are treated with dignity, respect, and in accordance with Ngwala’s cultural values and practices, while working collaboratively within SKCH’s tenancy guidelines.
Skills & Experience:
- Welfare work and / or community development
- Experience in working with Aboriginal people experiencing family violence or at risk of homelessness
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique health challenges and social issues faced by the Aboriginal community, including the impacts of alcohol and drug use, family dynamics and homelessness.
- Ability to provide culturally safe and respectful care and services to the Aboriginal community.
- Leadership skills to lead and inspire a team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Current Victorian driver's licence
- National Police Certificate (not older than 3 months)
- Victorian Employment Working with Children Check
