Join the Strategic Policy Unit — a high-performing team within the Attorney-General’s Department — delivering major justice reform initiatives and building strong sector capacity.

About the Role:

As the Manager Legal Assistance Sector, you will:

Lead the development, negotiation and implementation of justice-related policies, procedures and strategic reform initiatives.

Provide high-level advice and reporting, including Ministerial briefings, executive correspondence and detailed program analysis.

Partner with legal assistance providers to improve governance, financial sustainability and sector capability.

Engage and collaborate with stakeholders across NT Government, the Commonwealth, other jurisdictions and the non-government legal assistance sector.

Location Preference:

This role is ideally based in Alice Springs, offering a valuable opportunity to engage directly with regional stakeholders and communities. However, we are open to considering Darwin as the base location for the right candidate.

What You'll Bring:

Strong conceptual and analytical thinking skills to identify needs, risks and deliver innovative, evidence-based solutions.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to distil complex issues into clear, actionable advice.

Demonstrated project coordination and planning experience with a focus on outcomes and collaboration.

High-level stakeholder engagement skills, including working with culturally and geographically diverse communities.

Experience in implementing reform initiatives in a complex policy or justice environment.

Desirable:

Tertiary qualifications or experience in law, public policy, social sciences, or related fields.

A sound understanding of the NT justice system and legal assistance landscape.
