OUR ORGANISATION

The Charleville and District Community Support Association Incorporated (trading as the Charleville Neighbourhood Centre) is a not-for-profit, community-managed organisation funded by various government bodies. It is overseen by a Management Committee elected annually by members. Membership is free and open to all, except staff members.

Each funded service implements decisions made by the Management Committee, as advised by the Centre Coordinator.

The Charleville Neighbourhood Centre is committed to treating all staff, volunteers, committee members, service users, and providers with respect and professionalism, upholding the organisation’s values and legal obligations.

OUR VISION

The Charleville Neighbourhood Centre works towards creating stronger, safer and more resourceful communities in Charleville and the south-west region.

OUR MISSION

To work together with communities, in a respectful and genuine way, to recognise and value the strengths of individuals and communities

1. PRIMARY ROLE

The Home Assist Secure (HAS) Worker is responsible for the delivery of practical home maintenance, repair, and modification services that support eligible clients to live safely and independently in their own homes. This includes conducting home safety assessments, performing or coordinating minor works, and ensuring compliance with program guidelines and safety standards.

The role requires a strong client-service focus, trade or maintenance competence, and the ability to work autonomously across a large regional catchment. The HAS Worker will regularly travel to outlying communities including Cunnamulla, Morven, Augathella, Quilpie and Tambo, with ad-hoc overnight stays required to ensure timely and equitable service delivery.

2. SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Home Safety Assessments:

Conduct in-home assessments to identify risks or hazards affecting client safety, security, or independence.

Recommend practical solutions such as grab rails, ramps, lighting, locks, and smoke alarms.

Provide information and education on safe living and home maintenance practices.

Minor Maintenance and Repairs

Undertake minor maintenance or repairs consistent with HAS program scope and safety requirements (e.g. locks, screens, smoke alarms, light globes, minor carpentry or fixtures).

Coordinate with licensed trades for works requiring specialist expertise (e.g. electrical, plumbing).

Ensure all work complies with WHS, licensing, and relevant building standards.

Client Liaison and Support

Build respectful relationships with clients, their families, and carers to ensure person-centred service delivery.

Provide advice on preventative maintenance and home safety.

Ensure clients are informed of program eligibility, cost arrangements, and available subsidies.

Contractor and Supplier Coordination

Source and liaise with approved local contractors to complete eligible works.

Obtain and evaluate quotes, ensuring value for money and quality standards.

Monitor contractor performance and verify completion of works.

Recordkeeping and Reporting

Maintain accurate records of assessments, work orders, costs, and client communications.

Support program reporting, audits, and compliance processes.

Use digital tools (e.g. Microsoft 365) to document and track activities.

Travel and Remote Service Delivery

Plan and coordinate regional travel efficiently to deliver services across the catchment.

Manage logistical needs including tools, materials, and accommodation during overnight stays.

Represent the organisation positively in all communities visited.

Workplace Health and Safety

Conduct risk assessments and adhere to safe work practices at all times.

Ensure appropriate PPE is used and maintained.

Report hazards, incidents, and maintenance issues promptly.

3. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

It is desirable, but not essential, that the successful candidate hold a trade qualification or a Certificate III in a relevant field (e.g. carpentry, maintenance, construction, or community services). Equivalent experience in property maintenance or home safety roles will be considered.

4. SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES (selection criteria)

Demonstrated practical skills in property maintenance, repairs, or modifications.

Understanding of safety, accessibility, and security principles for older persons and people with disability.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a client-centred approach.

Ability to plan, prioritise, and complete tasks independently, often in remote settings.

Ability to use computers and other electronic devices to complete administrative and reporting tasks.

Sound knowledge of WHS principles and safe work practices.

Ability and willingness to travel extensively and stay overnight as required.

Commitment to the values and mission of the Charleville Neighbourhood Centre.

Cultural capability and respect for diversity, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and remote communities.

Note: Induction and training will be provided as required, with ongoing support from the Centre Coordinator and relevant Management Committee Members.

5. GENERAL TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

Ability to contribute positively to a team environment and maintain a professional and welcoming work environment.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Commitment to adhering to organisational policies and procedures.

Commitment to workplace safety, accurate record-keeping, and principles of anti- discrimination and equal opportunity.
