About us

Durri Aboriginal Corporation Medical Service (ACMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Primary Health Service. For over 40 years, Durri ACMS has provided essential and culturally appropriate health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people located in Kempsey, Nambucca Heads, and surrounding communities.

Our primary health service site in Kempsey is located on the traditional lands of the Dunghutti people, extending from the eastern extremity of the Mid North Coast to the Northern Tablelands.

Our Nambucca clinic sits in the homeland of the Gumbaynggirr people, with the Nambucca Valley being the southern gateway to subtropical Australia.

Durri services range across a number of both clinical and non-clinical services. From primary health care, chronic disease, dental, women’s health, perinatal to postnatal services as well as programs ranging from social emotional wellbeing services being built within an all-encompassing health setting means a comprehensive health approach can be undertaken.

Durri ACMS acknowledges the impact of past trauma, dispossession, separation of families, child removal, ongoing social disadvantage, racism and other historical, political, social and cultural issues that impact on the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and their communities.

About the role

Oral health therapists can positively influence the oral and general health of current and future generations. Durri ACMS is an employer of choice and offers a range of work environments including our busy Oral Health Clinic, community and school-based clinics and mobile dental unit.

This position is responsible for managing and assisting in the provision of oral health services to improve oral health outcomes to Aboriginal people.

The key objectives of the role include:

Providing examining and diagnosing dental decay and gum diseases and providing routine dental treatments to members of the Aboriginal community.

Planning and implementation of programs and services promoting the health and general wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

Assessing and improving oral health in the Aboriginal community; and

Ensure that oral health educational and promotional components of the program are effective and culturally appropriate.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:

Bachelor of Oral Health.

Current registration with APHRA.

Demonstrated knowledge, advanced skills and experience in a range of oral procedures incorporating sound knowledge of community oral health, public oral health and Aboriginal oral health.

Experience working with health service agencies, non-government organisation, community groups and medical professionals at all levels.

Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the local community and all levels of the organisation.

High level of written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to demonstrated empathy when required.

Demonstrated ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules and in accordance with variable workload demands.

Demonstrated ability of high level of computer literacy; sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Ability to hold all relevant security clearances including the National Police Check, Working with Children clearance, current First Aid and CPR certification.

Current valid unrestricted NSW Driver licence, minimum of Class “C” or equivalent.
