About the role

We are seeking multiple casual Technical Assistant’s to join our Laboratory Support Services team. As a Technical Assistant based at our Mile End Laboratory, you will be a vital step in every patient’s care journey. From receiving and checking labels to scanning request forms and accurate data entry, you ensure every specimen starts its journey with precision and care. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality ensures our patients receive excellent care. You will be working in a fast-paced environment where your role truly matters. This is the hub of our lab and you’ll be right at the centre of it.

The department operates over morning, day, afternoon and evening hours to ensure continuous, high quality support for our laboratory operations. Team Members are required to work on a rotating roster that includes a variety of shift times and coverage across both weekdays and weekends. This schedule plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth flow of specimen processing and supporting patient care beyond standard business hours.

Your key responsibilities will include:

· Receive and sort all specimens from couriers and collectors and triage

· Register all patient episodes into our Laboratory Information System

· Carefully review all information provided on request forms to ensure excellent patient care

· Perform aliquoting, centrifugation and freezing of specimens

· Preparing and packaging specimens for transport and testing

· Liaising with a range of different people including patients, clinic staff and couriers

To be successful you will have:

Essential

· Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written).

· Exceptional time management skills and able to work autonomously and independently.

· Ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

· Ability to communicate effectively with the collections team, doctors, patients and with a high level of empathy.

· Ability to be well organised, reliable and demonstrate a positive and professional attitude.

· Be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and be confident in using computer programs.

Desirable (but not essential)

· A demonstrated experience and knowledge in phlebotomy

· Proven experience processing pathology specimens
