Duration 12 months - Until 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension
Salary: $208,400 - $297,250 TRP

About the Role
The Principal Medical Advisor plays a critical role in providing high-level clinical oversight and expert medical advice to the Commission under the guidance of our Clinical Advice Framework. Working with other Principal Medical Advisors as part of a team of senior clinical advisors, the role ensures that appropriate clinical standards are consistently understood and applied across all Commission processes.
You will contribute your expertise to the assessment of complaints, the examination of the adequacy of health practitioners' and organisations' clinical performance, and the consideration of potential disciplinary actions. A key part of the role is providing advice that supports risk-based decision making on clinical matters, while also helping to build organisational capability in reviewing and interpreting clinical information. Importantly, the role plays a central part in identifying and assessing risks to public health and safety.
This role is a temporary part time opportunity. Remote workers are considered. In office attendance is required for this role on an ad hoc and occasional basis. To review the Position Description, click here.
What We're Looking For
* The ideal candidate will have:
* Post graduate qualifications in Medicine, FRACGP or Fellowship in other specialty.
* Extensive experience as a medical practitioner, holding or eligible for general and/or specialist registration with AHPRA and membership of an Australian Postgraduate Medical College, with up-to-date knowledge of current clinical practice standards, clinical governance and contemporary medical ethics.
* Knowledge of the NSW health regulatory system or the ability to quickly acquire an understanding of the system.

* Recent experience in a hospital environment is highly desirable.
