About the business and the role
We are a small, well established dental practice looking to replace our current hygienist who has moved into another industry. Our premises are modern and bright in pleasant surroundings. We aim to provide a high standard of dental care and excellent customer service.
To enjoy working here you will be a good team player with a mature mindset. We will accept applications from new graduates, but would prefer at least one years experience as a hygienist or oral health therapist.
AHPRA registration as a Dental Hygienist or Oral Health Therapist is required, with applications in progress considered.
You will be passionate about oral health, with good communication skills and time management, tact, and a gentle approach to patient treatment. You may be calm and efficient, or bubbly and outgoing. Either way you will be able to relate to a variety of people of different ages and from different backgrounds.
This position is initially for 2 days a week, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays being the most suitable day due to existing patient bookings. Mondays and Thursday afternoons are also possible. We are flexible - talk to us!
Job tasks and responsibilities
The primary duties of a dental hygienist include assessing the oral health of patients, scaling, polishing and cleaning teeth and dental restorations, applying decay preventative agents, and teaching oral hygiene techniques to patients.
Qualified Oral Health Therapists are welcome to apply, and would be able to take responsibility for basic dental care of children as well.
You may be required to take intraoral x-rays and assist with general oral health promotion tasks. If you are able to scan or take impressions, supervise tooth whitening and provide diet counselling that is useful.
You will be expected to maintain good infection control standards and keep your room stocked.
Skills and experience
We assume you have the technical skills of a graduate hygienist as a minimum standard. Experience as a dental assistant is valuable. Oral Health Therapy scope would be a bonus.
Our patients expect and receive gentle care, especially when scaling.
People skills are essential - you should be able to develop and maintain rapport with patients, and work collaboratively with dentists and dental assistants.
Your clinical record keeping will be accurate, and there should be attention to detail in everything you do.
Job benefits and perks
Car park available. There is a very nice bakery across the road, and we are close to food outlets and a small shopping centre.
Induction and some on the job training will be provided.
Personal dental treatment is included as a job benefit.
