Your opportunity:
This is a temporary flexible full-time position for a period of six (6) months, based in Brisbane.
As a Senior Legal Officer in the Supreme Court Bail team, you will:
- Prepare complex matters referred for prosecution (including bail submissions) in a professional and timely manner
- Prepare comprehensive written submissions for Supreme Court bail hearings (and other jurisdictions when called upon)
- Appear as an advocate and represent the Director at bail applications, in the Superior Courts (primarily the Supreme Court)
- Apply well developed communication skills, including interpersonal skills, to negotiate, consult and liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders, including complainants and relatives
- Collaborate with a range of internal and external staff across legal and administrative fields, including Queensland Police Service, Queensland Courts and defence firms.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Relevant legal experience to apply legal principles, draft legal documents and provide legal advice
- Work effectively as an advocate in the Magistrates and/or higher courts
- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Identify and address the needs of victims of crime
- The ability to supervise, train and mentor legal and support staff
- A high level of professional competence and ethical standards
About the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions:
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) represents the State of Queensland in criminal cases. The ODPP's significant responsibility is to prosecute criminal matters in the High Court of Australia, Court of Appeal (Qld), Supreme Court, Mental Health Court, District Court, the Children's Court of Queensland, and the Magistrates Court (in limited locations and matters).
Mandatory qualifications:
You must be admitted as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia (please indicate date of admission in your application).
