About the team:

Based within the Environment, Heritage and Resilience Department, the City Heritage team is a small and agile team known for its commitment to flexible work practices whilst delivering impactful heritage protection, conservation and compliance outcomes.

Our team’s services focus on the identification and protection of historic and Aboriginal cultural heritage within the local government area, conserving and celebrating the City’s significant heritage places, and ensuring the City’s land use activities do not harm cultural heritage. We work collaboratively with a range of internal teams and external stakeholders (including community, Aboriginal parties, and other levels of government) for optimal heritage outcomes.

About your new role:

We currently have a permanent full-time opportunity to join our Heritage team. This role offers the chance to work flexibly (home/office hybrid) while contributing to projects that help guide the City’s heritage compliance services.

As a highly experienced heritage professional, you will:

Provide expert technical cultural heritage advice and support the City’s capital and operational work program

Lead Aboriginal party consultation and agreement making

Provide specialist support to complex / high risk projects

Project manage due diligence programs of work

Prepare and review complex technical heritage documentation including reports, plans, agreements, and approvals

Drawing on specialist knowledge and experience, develop heritage risk management processes and procedures

Set heritage risk management priorities at the project level, including complex projects

Manage heritage work programs and consultants, including Aboriginal party technical advisors

Contribute to the development of heritage risk management process, systems and templates and maintain records

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working autonomously while collaborating across teams, values flexibility, and is driven to make a difference through sound heritage risk management practices.

We're looking for people who have:

Has extensive experience in historic and Aboriginal cultural heritage management in infrastructure planning and delivery.

Has extensive experience in cultural heritage management in capital and operational projects.

Has experience operating within teams, mentoring and guiding others and creating a positive workplace environment.

Demonstrates the ability to collaborate with and manage multiple stakeholders.

Hold a high level of interpersonal, oral and written skills including demonstrated experience presenting technical matters to stakeholders.

Demonstrate high attention to detail, and ability to analyse issues and problem solve, lead risk management development and effectively interpret heritage legislation as it relates to land use activities.

Ideally holds a Bachelor Degree in Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Management, Anthropology, or related field.
