An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and driven Manager – Waste and Natural Resources to take ownership of waste management, environmental sustainability, and regulatory compliance across a diverse regional portfolio. This role is ideal for a professional ready to make a real impact in a collaborative local government setting.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the delivery of strategic and operational waste services, including kerbside collection, landfills, and recycling
- Oversee sustainability initiatives across energy use, emissions reduction, pollution control, and climate change adaptation
- Manage Council’s biosecurity programs, including weed control and environmental compliance under the Biosecurity Act
- Supervise animal control, illegal dumping, and regulatory enforcement functions
- Develop and implement environmental policies and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation
- Liaise with government bodies (EPA, DPI, LLS), regional partners, and internal stakeholders
- Lead, develop and mentor a team of five staff across environment, compliance, and biosecurity
- Contribute to strategic planning, contract management, and community engagement initiatives
What You’ll Bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field
- At least 5 years’ experience in waste or environmental management, ideally in a local government or regulatory setting
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing staff and multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent understanding of environmental legislation, compliance, and reporting requirements
- Proven ability to manage budgets, contracts, and projects from inception to delivery
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence
