This is a jointly funded 1 FTE role: 0.75 FTE with Flinders University and 0.25 FTE with South Australian Genomics Centre (SAGC), which is based at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). The successful candidate will therefore have employment agreements with both Flinders University and SAGC.
About the Role
The Senior Genomics Research Coordinator plays a pivotal role in leading and advancing the South Australian Genomics Centre's (SAGC) quality management system (QMS), ensuring alignment with NATA accreditation standards and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025. A key focus of the role is to drive the expansion of accreditation to include ISO/IEC 15189 for medical testing, reinforcing the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of genomic services delivered to researchers across South Australia and beyond.
Operating under broad direction, this position champions a culture of continuous improvement and regulatory excellence. It is responsible for identifying and implementing process enhancements within the genomics laboratory to optimise operational efficiency, reduce risk, and maintain consistently high-quality service delivery.
Working across multiple projects, the Senior Genomics Research Coordinator must demonstrate strong organisational, collaboration, and time-management skills. A sound understanding of current genomics technologies and next-generation sequencing is essential to support the delivery of services within a robust quality framework that meets both industry standards and stakeholder expectations.
About You
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:
- A bachelor's degree with Honours or higher in a relevant field such as Molecular Biology, Genomics, Laboratory Science, or Quality Management.
- Experience working within genomics facility settings and understanding their operational context.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing audits, implementing corrective actions, and driving quality improvement initiatives.
- Additional qualifications in quality management systems (e.g., ISO standards, auditing)
- Experience contributing to the development or implementation of ISO 15189 accreditation scope

South Australian Genomics Centre (SAGC)
The South Australian Genomics Centre (SAGC) is a multi-institutional, national genomics facility that is supported by Government of South Australia and Bioplatforms Australia (BPA) through the Australian Government's National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). The SAGC has consolidated genomics and bioinformatics expertise in the state, with a group of genomics and bioinformatics staff working side-by-side to deliver innovative genomics and bioinformatics solutions across all areas of genomics research, including agriculture, healthcare and ecology. The SAGC is headquartered in the iconic South Australian Health and Medical Research (SAHMRI) building in the Adelaide CBD. Its Flinders Node is located in the new Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) as the centrepiece of the Flinders Village development. This role is primarily based at the Flinders campus.
