An exciting opportunity exists for a Service Excellence Project Manager to support Sydney Water Laboratory Services in a Future & Mobile Lab enterprise initiative with innovation projects, especially with operationalisation of successfully piloted concepts. If you’re an experienced Project Manager, with high level logic mapping, understanding complex processes and an ability to think outside the box, while collaborating with a team of experts – then we’d like to hear from you.

Experience in all aspects of project management will be required, including focus on project governance, record keeping, process mapping and milestone reporting. This is an exciting opportunity to help Laboratory Services bring our Future & Mobile Lab to life and help us realise the benefits of many projects already in our pipeline and new ones waiting to be initiated from within our large team and wider stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the successful delivery of complex projects from initiation through to close out and handover
  • Actively drive collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams in Sydney Water to ensure consistency, accuracy and efficiency in project delivery, cost and risk management across allocated projects
  • Undertake project planning, determining project critical path and milestones; create realistic and achievable estimates and breakdown projects into manageable work packages.
  • Ensure Project Plans include clear targets, objectives, Key Performance Indicators, scope of work and deliverables
  • Prepare Business Cases for complex projects to meet client expectations, including options identification, analysis and recommendation
  • Proactively manage stakeholder and community engagement and communications for the allocated projects, ensuring alignment with overarching Sydney Water Communications and Engagement Strategy.
  • Ensure project risks are effectively identified, mitigated and managed, including the proactive management of the early warning process, both in receiving notification or issuing notification as the situation requires, to effectively manage any matters that could impact the delivery of the project in scope, on-time and within budget.
  • Ensure project schedules are developed, updated, monitored and managed in line with the business case expectations, for all phases of the project, and that project schedule milestones are defined, measured, managed and met.
  • Management of project financials (budgets and forecasting)
  • Ensure contingency costs are tracked against controls defined in the risk register, and opportunities are tracked and pursued.
  • Prepare and endorse changes to project scope and ensure these are accurately reflected in the next update of the program
  • Ensure Quality, Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental plans are developed, reviewed, approved and monitored to ensure compliance to contract and Sydney Water Management plans
  • Ensure that a procurement strategy is in place, and procurement details are in specification, and that procurement activities are carried out accordingly.
  • Manage commissioning and close out tasks as required and ensure completion.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting on project status, including Key Performance Indicators, cost, schedule, risk etc against the Project Management Plan.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline (engineering, science, business, management) or experience deemed equivalent
  • Proven project management experience
  • Working within and leading large, multi-disciplinary integrated teams and/or alliances
  • Industry experience within infrastructure/utilities sectors
