About the Role

This role is residential and based in Aurukun.

The position is responsible for the day to day management of the Aurukun Shire Airport and all activities associated with the airport operations. Reporting to the Civil and Operational Works Manager the Airport Supervisor will provide advice on improvements to the Aurukun Shire Council Airport including infrastructure, customer service, presentation and safety.

Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain build solid relationships (with internal and external) stakeholders will be vital to this role along with high level of commitment to interact positively in a remote Aboriginal community.

Key Accountabilities

Conduct of daily airstrip checks in accordance with the Airport Management Manual

Ensure safety and security standards are maintained at a high level

Ensure the airport and environs are clean and well maintained with a high standard of presentation of the airport.

Land management within the airport environs as required by the Airport Management Manual

Ensure all relevant legislative and regulatory requirements are being met

Liaise with service providers and other major airport users regarding their needs and to ensure proper safety and security standards are being maintained

Manage response to any emergency situation that arises at the airport

Advise the Civil and Operational Works Manager as appropriate regarding infrastructure upgrade and maintenance requirements

Ensure published aerodrome information is appropriately reviewed and updated in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Coordinate internal compliance audits as required.

Manage staff and visitor inductions as required to ensure regulatory compliance.

Investigate airside incidents, accidents and hazards.

When required, assist in refuelling aircraft which involves heavy overhead lifting

Coordinate maintenance of security / boarding equipment and other facilities.

Ensure all Airport registers and logs are maintained and reporting requirements are complete.

Provide onsite contact for delivery of capital projects for the Airport as required.

Assist in the preparation of detailed forward operational plans and budget estimates and manage and report on airport plans and budget performance.

When required, maintain avgas fuel supplies through regular monitoring

Develop and maintain networks and relationships with compliance authorities, government organisations and other key stakeholders.

Promote a safety and security culture amongst Airport council staff and other stakeholders

Risk Register and risk treatment plans are in place and risk treatments are being effectively implemented.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Essential

Airport Security Identification Card

Current driver’s licence

Current accreditation as an aircraft refueller

Dangerous Goods Awareness Certificate

Aerodrome Reporting Officer Certificate

Good physical fitness and capable of lifting heavy weights overhead

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to negotiate, conflict manage and diffuse volatile situations

Desirable

Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Indigenous people.

Capacity to demonstrate a high level of commitment to interact positively in a remote Aboriginal community.
