This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro-rata’d to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.
This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

About the Opportunity
- The CAMHS Peer Support Worker has lived experience of mental health services and personal recovery, and shares knowledge, skills and strategies for living with a mental health challenge to foster hope for recovery for consumers.
- This position will be a key contact for children and young people whom are experiencing mental health difficulties. The CAMHS Peer Support Worker will be utilised where possible in all stages of care to promote consumer empowerment and support.
- The CAMHS Peer Support Worker will also be utilised in regular consultation and care planning procedures with psychiatry and mental health practitioners across all stages of care.
- The successful applicant will aim to decrease the amount of presentations to emergency department resulting in an admission through adequate follow up within community and targeted/informed interventions and supports guided by individuals whom have been CAMHS consumers in the past.
- The position holder works alongside other members of the multi-disciplinary team, contributing to care planning and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for consumers
- The successful applicant would aim to increase levels of consumer connectivity during all types of encounters with mental health services.
- The CAMHS peer worker will provide assertive support and post discharge follow up to consumers who are transitioning between acute mental health care and the community.

- Lived experience of mental health and use of the child and adolescent mental health service, with the ability to utilise lived experience to support others with their own mental health recovery journey whilst drawing on effective strategies to maintain wellness
- Ability to positively and appropriately use lived experience in the workplace
- Communication skills, both written and verbal
- Interpersonal skills to develop collaborative relationships
- Demonstrated understanding of key principles that underpin recovery
- Have a current NSW License (or willingness to obtain) and willingness to travel
- Openness to mentoring, supervision and professional growth

About Far West NSW Local Health District
Bordering three states, Far West Local Health District (LHD) covers 194,949 square kilometres in remote NSW. The LHD is sparsely populated, with 62% of its approximately 30,000 inhabitants living in the Silver City of Broken Hill. The remainder of the population live in agricultural towns along the Murray River, in small remote communities of 80-800 people or on stations throughout the LHD.
