Trainee Drum Operator

Trainee Drum Operator position to progress into Permanent Drum Operator position

Trainee Drum Operator Salary: $35.75 per hour (Drum Operator Salary: $39.32 per hour) + Super

12 hour shifts – Average 42 hours per week (rostered: 2 Day, 2 Night, 4 RDO)

The Role

The Trainee Drum Operator will be developed into a Drum Operator over period of up to 18 months. After successful completion of the Trainee Drum Operator program and reaching 100% competency, the candidate will be appointed in a Permanent role as a Drum Operator.

The Drum Operator will perform all duties within safety and quality required to process all skins through the tanning process. The Drum Operator will batch up chemicals, perform chemical additions and test the hides and the process to ensure conformance with technical specifications. The Drum Operator will also be required to have basic knowledge of the factory/effluent and offer support to the other areas as per Production Manager’s request.

Key responsibilities:

Check tanning batch details.

Fill in batch details into computer system (tanning recipe)

Tare weight of Drums.

Add water to drums before starting of process.

Prepare chemicals for tanning process according to recipe sheet and add them to the drums at the required time.

Perform Quality Checks in the tanning process and skins according to recipe sheet.

Operate Forklifts

Load/Unload Drums

Load/Unload Trucks

Preparation of Ice and Short Term Preservation of Hides

Engage in any relevant training offered by the company

Follow Technical Instructions given by Technical Manager and Operational Instructions given by Production Manager.

Follow WHS Policies and Procedures and maintain proper conduct in the Workplace by respecting peers and managers.

Demonstrate commitment to health & safety through participation in formal and informal discussions, hazard inspections, risk assessments, HSC meetings and incident investigation.

Participate where required in the resolution of safety issues.

Actively monitor the workplace to determine the presence of hazards and assist to rectify any hazards found.

Participate in the rehabilitation of injured workers in consultation with the Return to Work Coordinator if required to do so.

Key accountabilities:

Chemical Processing of Hides with Safety, Quality and Efficiency

Loading and unloading of Hides with Safety, Quality and Efficiency

Cleanness and Organization of Drum Platform and adjacent floor areas (drum floor, tunnel and chemical storage area)

Supervision of all plant and equipment under your direct control (Drums, pickle plants, CRP, boiler, water tanks, CO2 system, Gas Ventilation system, forklifts, etc.).

The successful applicant will possess the following skills:

Self-motivated mature person.

Committed to safety.

Able to adapt to constant changes.

Basic knowledge of mathematics and computer systems.

Competent at driving forklifts.

Able to lift 25 Kg bags and buckets and add to tanning drums.

Can do attitude.

Capable to work shifts.

Available to do 12 hour overtime shifts.

Good time managing skills and organized.

Able to maintain a clean work environment.

Hardworking and reliable

Ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment

Strong commitment to safe work practices

Hold Australian Work rights (Residential or Visa)

Current drivers licence as well as your own reliable transport

A forklift licence (highly desirable)

Be able to provide a clear drug and alcohol screens
