About the company
Our client is Australia’s leading peer-led youth trauma recovery organisation, dedicated to supporting at-risk youth aged 12-25. Their mission is to empower young people by fostering healing and resilience through shared experiences. They do this by creating safe spaces, where young people with lived experience support each other to heal from trauma, make meaningful peer connections, improve mental well-being and overcome life challenges.

About the role
We are looking for a full-time Peer Worker in Shoalhaven, whose life experiences living with mental health and trauma challenges, along with your personal recovery journey, assist in mentoring and supporting at-risk young people to improve their health, well-being, and connection to community.

You will work alongside Team Leader – Social Workers to provide case work, assist young people to access 1:1 individual support, weekend workshops, and weekly support groups. Working mostly out of high schools, your work will take you from Shoalhaven down to Sanctuary Point.

About you
As someone with personal lived experience of trauma and mental health struggles, you will apply that experience, along with your recovery journey, to support young people by applying a strength-based and person-centred approach to communicating with them. You will also have:

  • A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of community engagement practices
  • Ability to build relationships while maintaining boundaries
  • A strong understanding of your own self-care measures
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role

Essential Requirements

  • Cert IV or higher in Peer Work, Mental Health, Community Work, Welfare or Intentional Peer Support (preferred)
  • Working with Children Check WWCC (paid employee)
  • Current National police Record Check
  • Current First Aid
  • A current and valid driver’s license
  • Australian working rights

Benefits

  • Fully maintained company car
  • Laptop and Mobile Phone
  • Professional Development Opportunities
  • Access to Salary Packaging to maximise your take home pay
  • Competitive Salary

For the opportunity to make a difference, and foster healing and resilience among young people, APPLY NOW! Alternatively, reach out to Sarah for a friendly, confidential conversation on 0468 463 070.
