About the Opportunity:
Are you a proud Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person looking to start a hands-on career in greenkeeping? This is your opportunity to gain practical experience while working towards a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management. As a Greenkeeping Apprentice with our Parks and Open Spaces team, you'll help care for and maintain Council-managed assets including sports fields, turf wickets, and golf courses.
What You'll Learn:
- Turf care techniques: mowing, edging, watering, fertilising
- How to maintain sports fields, wickets, and golf greens
- Safe use of turf equipment and machinery
- Basics of plant health, soil care, and pest control
- Workplace safety and WHS practices
What You'll Be Doing:
- Maintain sportsgrounds and golf courses across Wollongong
- Support turf care tasks under expert supervision
- Prepare surfaces for sports and public use
- Operate and care for turf equipment
- Help keep public spaces safe, clean, and presentable
We are looking for someone who:
- Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- Hold a valid current P1 Drivers Licence
- Is eligible to enrol in a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management in 2026
- Has not completed or is currently studying a Certificate III or higher in this field and has as less than 6 months of experience in a similar role
- Is 16 years or over and have completed Yr 10 with a Record of School Achievement
- Enjoys working outdoors and taking pride in maintaining high-quality green spaces
- Is reliable and self-motivated to take responsibility for their own development and learning
- Has the appropriate literacy, numeracy, and digital skills to support their learning to manage the educational and professional requirements of the traineeship
- Works well in a team, takes pride in their work, and has a keen eye for detail
- Seeks and accepts constructive feedback from others.
- Is physically fit, comfortable working at heights and is capable of performing repetitive tasks.
- Has a commitment to understanding Work Health and Safety principles.

- Session 2 (Face to Face): When: Wednesday 8 October: 5:30- 6:30pm: Location: Wollongong Youth Services (85 Burelli Street, Wollongong New South Wales 2500)
