Department for Education SA
Posted 6 days ago
Step into a once in a lifetime opportunity to lead Open Access College into a new era at the forefront of bold, world leading reform, reforms that will inspire learners, educators, and communities and shape the future of education in South Australia and beyond. This role harnesses the power of technology as a catalyst for equity, connection, and excellence, positioning South Australia at the global forefront of education innovation.
Open Access College is entering an exciting new phase of growth and excellence. As a leader in inclusive, flexible, and high-quality learning, the College supports more than 5,000 students across metropolitan, rural, remote, interstate, and overseas locations, students who seek personalised pathways, specialist subjects, or alternative models that respond to their unique needs and circumstances.
The College’s reach is extensive. Itinerant teachers visit School of the Air students and those in geographically remote and isolated communities across South Australia. Learners are diverse: children and young people who cannot attend mainstream schools due to distance, health, or travel; secondary students requiring subjects not available locally; adults returning to complete their secondary education; and home-schooled students accessing languages, music, or full-time SACE in Years 10–12. With dedicated wellbeing services, specialist staff, and strong partnerships, Open Access College nurtures student success and connection alongside academic achievement.
New reform opportunities are emerging, positioning Open Access College at the centre of innovation and global best practice. Whether through pioneering technologies, flexible delivery models, alternative pathways, or world leading approaches to equity and inclusion, the College is poised to step into a new era that will inspire learners, educators, and communities alike.
A key reform is the co-design and delivery of South Australia’s statewide model for online and hybrid learning, in close partnership with the wider system and with strong links to local delivery. This work will reimagine how public education extends its reach, adaptability, and equity, ensuring every learner, regardless of location or circumstance, can access meaningful, future focused opportunities. The model will provide both synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences, grounded in systems thinking that recognises lasting change depends on the interconnectedness of pedagogy, policy, technology, community, student wellbeing, and inclusion.
This is a rare and influential opportunity to lead a reform that bridges both site and system, harnessing South Australia’s proud history of educational innovation to shape a pioneering model that will set the benchmark for the future of learning locally, nationally, and globally.
We are seeking an educational leader of outstanding calibre, visionary, bold, and deeply committed to equity, ready to inspire and leave a world leading legacy for learners across our state.
