Allied Health Assistant (Level 3) – Pathway into Exercise Physiology

The Next Step Recovery & Wellness Centre – Epping, VIC

The Next Step Spinal Cord Injury Recovery & Wellness Centre (TNS) is a not-for-profit organisation unique to the Spinal Cord Injury and Neurological Recovery Community. Since 2012, we’ve been dedicated to creating a space where evidence-based recovery meets innovation, inclusion, and community.

Our centre is more than just a clinic or a gym — it’s a home away from home. We pride ourselves on being bright, welcoming, and motivational. Families, students, and clients alike know us as a communal hub for recovery, connection, and education. With a brand-new Gym and Recovery Zone (including sauna, ice bath, compression therapy, and more), this is an exciting time to join our team.

We are seeking a Level 3 Allied Health Assistant with a background in Exercise Science, or someone currently completing their Exercise Physiology degree. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on clinical and recovery experience in a highly specialised environment while building a clear career pathway into Exercise Physiology.

This is a part-time position (20 hours per week minimum) with the potential to grow into a full-time role following probation.

About the Role

As an Allied Health Assistant at TNS, you’ll play an integral role in both clinical and operational aspects of our service. You will:

Support Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists in delivering individual and group therapy programs

Assist with strength & conditioning programs, helping clients build functional capacity, confidence, and resilience

Oversee the day-to-day running of our new Gym and Recovery Zones, ensuring a safe, professional, and welcoming environment

Carry out administrative responsibilities such as bookings, documentation, client notes, and referral coordination

Engage with clients, families, and key funding bodies (NDIS, TAC, WorkCover, DVA, Medicare, Private Health) to support service delivery

Participate in ongoing professional development in spinal cord injury and neurological rehabilitation

Contribute to a culture that is positive, motivational, and community-focused

Be flexible to work afternoons, evenings, and some weekends as required

About You

You will bring both skill and heart to the role, with:

Certificate IV – Level 3 Allied Health Assistant qualification

A degree or background in Exercise Science, or current enrolment in an Exercise Physiology degree

Clinical experience (student placements considered)

Strong interest in strength & conditioning and neurological rehabilitation

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an empathetic, approachable nature

Ability to balance client-facing work with administrative responsibilities

Confidence to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team

Current First Aid/CPR, WWCC, Police Check, and NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)

Why Join Us?

At TNS, you’ll gain much more than just a job:

Career progression – this role is designed to be a pathway into future Exercise Physiology positions

Hands-on experience in a specialist spinal cord injury and neurological recovery centre

Mentorship from a team of highly skilled and passionate allied health professionals

Opportunities to grow your expertise through structured professional development

A workplace culture that is inclusive, welcoming, and empowering

The chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of people living with disabilities
