Arcadia College is a Co-Ed Independent Special Assistance Secondary School for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. The Youth Worker role aims to improve outcomes for vulnerable young people and families through integrated and coordinated service delivery. Working across multiple cohorts, the Youth Worker’s primary role is to monitor student attendance and school engagement. In addition, the Youth Worker will liaise with key staff to develop and implement attendance support plans, flexible arrangements, eligible options, and exemptions. The Youth Worker is responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and implementing the Attendance Intervention Process, including maintaining expert knowledge in this area. The Youth Worker will coordinate service delivery with key stakeholders including teaching staff, wellbeing support staff, families, and external service providers to assist students in overcoming individual barriers to school attendance and engagement. In addition, the Youth Worker will support key staff in managing student retention and providing alternative transition pathways where necessary.

The position is located at Arcadia College Distance Education in Varsity Lakes, QLD, and is offered as a permanent full-time role, working from 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

Case manage youth from diverse backgrounds including assessment, case planning, implementation, monitoring and review of student attendance and engagement.

Manage attendance data and rewards across years 8-12.

Support, monitor and review the implementation of the Attendance Intervention process across the college.

Lead the development, monitoring and review of Attendance Support Plans and Re-engagement plans.

Manage student attendance data and implement intervention strategies that assist students and families in maintaining attendance.

Plan and facilitate a variety of evidence-based wellbeing programs with small groups of students.

Line managing the Student Engagement Officer team.

Work with key stakeholders to coordinate service delivery including Year Level Coordinators, Student Engagement Officers, Teaching staff, Wellbeing Team, Senior Management, families, and external service providers.

Work within appropriate legislative frameworks and organisational policy and procedure including following all mandatory reporting requirements.

Work with the Enrolments, Wellbeing Teams, and Senior Management to develop and implement a student retention strategy.

Assisting with morning pick-ups for students at risk of disengagement.

Liaise with key stakeholders to support transition pathways for students.

Mandatory Requirements:

Demonstrated cultural competence and the ability to work with young people of diverse backgrounds.

Adopt, implement, and utilise a Trauma-Informed Care approach fostering three core areas: Positive relationships, Safety and Emotional Regulation skills.

Understanding of mandatory reporting requirements in an education setting.

A demonstrated ability to successfully engage young people in relevant and dynamic learning.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with at- risk young people.

Knowledge of relevant legislation regarding student attendance.

Demonstrated ability to follow organisational policies and procedures.

Knowledge of current youth services, community agencies and employment agencies on the Gold Coast.

Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse groups (i.e. students, parents, employers, school personnel, training providers and government departments).

No adverse findings resulting from criminal history checks (i.e., AFP National Police Check for working with children or no unsuitable findings by the Department National Investigations Unit).

Desirable qualifications and tickets include:

Diploma or Bachelor Degree or equivalent in relevant field of study

Hold a current and valid Paid Working with Children Blue Card

Hold a current and valid Qld Drivers Licence

Previous experience in a similar role within Youth NFP and/or education sector

This position is permanent & fulltime.
