Senior Project Officer

At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners - from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.

  • Competitive salary of $129,464 - $142,665 pa plus superannuation and leave loading

About the role

Manage and coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of diverse complex projects to achieve project outcomes and support the achievement of organisational objectives.

The Design Policy Implementation (DPI) team sits within the Design and Infrastructure Standards team at SI. This role provides leadership of the Education Consultation workstream and works in close collaboration with the wider design team. The DPI team ensure key departmental policies are successfully translated and implemented into a wide variety of design activities.

About you

  • Educator background required, with a minimum 10 years teaching experience - to lead facilitation, engagement, and interpretation of DoE advice on teaching space design and operations
  • Demonstrated ability to work across complex stakeholder environments
  • Experience leading working groups and consultation processes
  • Ability to coordinate and analyse feedback processes and make operational recommendations
  • Knowledge of school design, infrastructure standards, and teaching space requirements
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence and a collaborative leadership style
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Desired skills

  • Experience contributing to or refining school infrastructure standards and spatial design guidelines
  • Strong understanding of evaluation processes and application of findings
  • Established networks across education and infrastructure sectors
  • Experience influencing policy or system-wide improvements in school design and operations
  • Advanced skills in facilitation, negotiation, and conflict resolution

Essential requirements of the role

  • Develop and lead the Educational Review Working Group (ERWG) program of engagement with key operational stakeholders, including Public Schools, TLSW, SPC, PPA, Techers Federation, Asset Management, and Key policy teams.
  • Provide evidence-based input into operational requirements as they relate to design
  • Lead liaison activities with the wider department and reporting on policy and inclusion
  • Contribute to continuous review and improvement of education spatial designs, for inclusion in the Pattern Book and EFSG
  • Stakeholder facilitation for technical, design and operational reviews of technical standards and education spatial designs with a particular focus on facilitating engagement with Public Schools, SPC / PPA
  • Project liaison, supporting projects which have an identified need for educational inputs
  • Reporting on key initiatives, relating to Policy and Inclusive Design
  • Develop and run program level initiatives to support school leadership to operationalise new school spaces, based on key design affordances
  • Understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
