AMEP English Trainers – Empower Adult Migrants to Succeed
Multiple full-time, part-time & casual roles (including evening and weekend classes) across South-East Melbourne.
Are you an English language teacher passionate about changing lives? Join a well-respected government-funded program where you’ll help adult migrants and refugees build their English skills, confidence, and a brighter future. Bright Spark Recruitment is proud to partner with a government body in South-East Melbourne to find qualified AMEP teachers – and we’ve already placed many happy teachers into these roles over the past year. Now, due to growing demand, we’re looking for more talented educators (like you!) to join this impactful program.
Whether you’re an experienced AMEP instructor, an ELICOS educator, or a TESOL-qualified teacher eager to work with adult learners, we want to hear from you. If you have a genuine passion for empowering adult migrants and refugees through language and settlement support, these positions offer meaningful, rewarding work – with the stability and support you’ve been looking for.
Why You’ll Love These Teaching Roles
Teach with Purpose & Impact: Make a real difference every day. You’ll be teaching English to adult migrants and refugees in one of Australia’s most important government-funded education programs. Your lessons will help newcomers settle confidently into their new communities – truly life-changing work that you can be proud of.
Stability & Growth: Tired of short-term gigs and uncertain schedules? These roles offer ongoing full-time and part-time opportunities with secure, long-term contracts. Many teachers we’ve placed have had their contracts renewed and even progressed from casual to permanent employment. There are clear pathways for career progression – build your career in a program that’s here to stay.
Supportive, Low-Stress Environment: Enjoy teaching in a team-based, respectful culture where quality teaching is valued. Our partner providers foster a supportive workplace with minimal red tape and paperwork – so you can focus on teaching, not being buried in compliance. You’ll have a helpful team around you and well-equipped modern facilities to enrich the learning experience.
Flexible Schedule Options: We have roles to fit your life. Choose from full-time, part-time, or casual positions – including opportunities for evening and weekend classes. Classes are face-to-face on campus (no scrambling between online/offline) and scheduled at set times, so you won’t be dealing with last-minute shift changes. This structured approach means better work-life balance for you, while still making a big impact.
Professional Development: Grow your skills as you work. You’ll have access to ongoing professional development and training. Our clients genuinely invest in their teachers – opening pathways to expand your skills (such as additional certifications or specializations) and keep your teaching practice at its best.
What You’ll Do (Role Overview)
As an AMEP/English Language Teacher, you will:
Deliver practical, engaging lessons tailored to adult learners from migrant and refugee backgrounds. You’ll teach English that helps with everyday life, work, and community participation.
Use flexible, learner-centered approaches to meet the needs of mixed-level classes and culturally diverse groups. Creativity and adaptability are key – no two classes are the same, and you’ll have the freedom to adjust your teaching to help each student succeed.
Support students’ settlement goals by building their language, literacy and confidence. From conversational skills to job-readiness English, you’ll play a pivotal role in their settlement journey.
Handle lesson planning and light admin related to the program. (Don’t worry – the necessary compliance and reporting are kept straightforward, and you’ll be supported so paperwork won’t overwhelm your teaching.)
All teaching is conducted in person at campuses across South-East Melbourne – allowing you to connect face-to-face with learners and be part of the on-campus community.
What You’ll Bring (Requirements)
To thrive in this role, you should have:
TESOL Qualifications: A postgraduate TESOL qualification (with at least 60 hours of teaching practicum). Note: A Certificate IV in TESOL or CELTA alone isn’t enough for AMEP – we need a higher-level TESOL credential such as a Graduate Diploma or Master of TESOL with practicum.
Education: An undergraduate degree (in any field).
Teaching Experience: Experience teaching English to adults – for example in the AMEP, ELICOS, community college, or other adult education settings. (If you’re newly qualified but had a solid practicum and passion for this work, we still encourage you to apply!)
Passion and Empathy: A strong commitment to inclusive, learner-focused teaching. You’re patient, culturally sensitive, and genuinely want positive outcomes for your students.
Bonus Skills: While not mandatory, a TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or VIT (Victorian Institute of Teaching) registration will be highly regarded. These can broaden the range of programs you might teach in and show your dedication to the field.
