About Us

Meeka Metals Limited (MEK) is building Western Australia’s newest gold mine and requires a proactive Safety and Emergency Officer to join the Health and Safety team at their flagship site - Murchison Gold Project, 50 km north of Meekatharra.

The project is a combined open pit and underground mining operation with an initial 10-year mine life. Site activities are ramping up now with construction underway, mining operations commencing early in 2025 and processing commencing shortly thereafter.

About the Role

The role reports to the Health and Safety Superintendent and responsible for providing technical advice and support to the site leadership team and employees regarding all Health and Safety and Emergency Response requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership and strategic direction in Health and Safety management and Emergency preparedness

Oversee the treatment of presented injuries or medical conditions

Promote a positive health and safety culture and environment for all site personnel

Establish effective Emergency Response Team (ERT) through promoting and recruiting participants to the team

Coordinate all emergency response training requirements and develop skills pathways for (ERT) members.

Implement and monitor the emergency drill schedule ensuring compliance and ongoing improvement against key metrics.

Identify and report potential hazards and eliminate risk taking behaviours or actions of site personnel.

Maintain the site Emergency Response Plan and train all employees and contractors in the duty card system

Develop and maintain emergency response equipment registers including asset register, maintenance records and usage report.

Develop robust procedures, reports and site policies to ensure investigations of all incidents are reported accurately

Co-ordinate off-site treatment and monitor the Return-to-Work case requirements.

Maintain the site medical clinic to an operational level including ordering stock and supplies, cleanliness and hygiene monitoring.

About You

+4 years’ experience in a similar role within a live mining environment

Knowledge of the DEMIRS Safety Regulation System

Developed numeracy, written and verbal communication skills

The ability to coordinate and prioritise workloads

Display sound judgement and problem-solving abilities

Experience in the Microsoft Office suite of software

Required Certificates:

Certificate IV Work Health & Safety

CERT IV in Health Care

CERT III in Emergency Response and Rescue

Valid C Western Australian Drivers Licence

Senior First Aid Certificate
