ABOUT YACWA
The Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia (YACWA) is WA’s peak non-government youth organisation. YACWA operates primarily as a human rights organisation that seeks to address the exclusion of young people in a rapidly changing society. YACWA is widely respected and has a strong and diverse membership which includes policy makers, academics, youth workers and, importantly, young people who are all passionate about achieving positive and meaningful outcomes for the children and young people of Western Australia.
PURPOSE OF THE YOUTH EDUCATING PEERS (YEP) PROJECT
The Youth Educating Peers (YEP) Project takes a sex-positive, inclusive, and harm-reduction approach to sexual health education. YEP aims to equip young people aged 12–25 with the knowledge and skills to look after their sexual wellbeing through peer-based in-person workshops and online education. YEP also builds the capacity of the youth sector to support young people on issues relating to relationships, sexuality, sexual health, and blood-borne viruses (SHBBV). The project is delivered by YACWA in partnership with WAAC, with funding from the WA Department of Health.
