Carters Engineering are a privately owned fabrication, engineering and refurbishment company, employing over 40 staff across multiple workshops in Bathurst NSW, just 2.5 hours west of Sydney.

We are seeking a skilled Power Transmission and Industrial Gearbox Overhaul Technician to join our Bathurst workshop team. The role focuses on the inspection, repair, overhaul, and testing of industrial gearboxes and power transmission systems used across mining, manufacturing, oil & gas, and power generation industries.

Reporting to the Reliability Manager, you will:

Disassemble, inspect, and diagnose faults in a variety of industrial gearboxes (helical, bevel, worm, planetary, etc.)

Carry out mechanical repairs, part refurbishment, and component replacements to OEM specifications

Perform precision measurements using micrometers, dial indicators, and related tools

Reassemble, test, and commission equipment to required tolerances and standards

Conduct on-site service and troubleshooting when required

Maintain detailed service records, documentation, and reporting

Trade qualifications required

Trade qualification (Mechanical Fitter / Plant Mechanic or similar)

3–5 years’ gearbox overhaul or heavy mechanical fitting experience

Strong knowledge of bearings, seals, couplings, and power transmission systems

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

Experience with precision measuring instruments

Current driver’s licence

Ability to work extended hours, including site work/night shift when required

Ability to pass regular drug and alcohol testing

Preferred

Experience with brands such as SEW-Eurodrive, Flender, Falk, David Brown, Hansen, Brevini

Forklift / EWP / Dogging–Rigging tickets

Familiarity with lubrication systems and heavy component rigging

Basic understanding of electric motors and gearbox integration
