About Richmond Shire Council

The position is based at Richmond, situated 500km west of Townsville on the Flinders Highway in North West Queensland. The Shire of Richmond is approximately 26,000 square kilometres. Richmond is a hive of activity during tourist season (April to October), and there are regular community events, rodeos and races, providing year round fun and entertainment. A large recreational lake is used for water sports, while the numerous park areas provide cool grassy spots to rest awhile. The surrounding region has all the beauty and dramatic landscapes of the outback.

The Position:

Richmond Shire Council is seeking the services of a Qualified Mechanic/Diesel Fitter to assist the Council’s Workshop in performing effective and reliable services, maintenance and repair of Council’s vehicles, plant and equipment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Undertake scheduled maintenance services to vehicle and plant as checklists, observing all specifications and standards

Undertake emergency service repairs to other plant and related equipment

Install machine parts as required

Repair, fabricate and weld plant and vehicles as required

Undertake programmed inspections as per job sheets

Research parts required and advise the Stores Officer for ordering

Maintain plant and equipment service operation records

Undertake administration tasks as necessary to support workshop operations

Assist with Workshop housekeeping

Assist with machinery/plant cleaning

Maintain storage and stocking of products in a safe manner within the workshop

The Successful candidate will possess the following knowledge & skills: -

Essential:

Trade Certificate or Tradesperson's Rights Certificate as an Engineering Tradesperson (Mechanical) Level 1 or Diesel Fitter Qualification

Drivers Licence current C class

National White Cared of Queensland Blue Workplace Health & Safety Construction Industry Certificate Card, or willingness and ability to obtain

Broad mechanical knowledge

Demonstrated time management and organisational skills

Desirable:

Demonstrated experience in the use of diagnostic equipment

Demonstrated welding experience

Truck drivers licence - up to current HC

Plant operator competency certificates

Air-conditioning tickets.

The Remuneration:

Council will offer a base wage of $53.34 per hr plus applicable allowances. This rate includes an over and award payment. After the successful completion of the probationary period (3 months), Council’s performance bonus will also apply bringing the wage to $55 per hour plus applicable allowances. This is in accordance with the Richmond Shire Council – Certified Agreement 2022.

Council housing available to rent and relocation allowance of $10,000 available
