About You

The Multicultural Child and Family Program (MCFP) supports children and young people in need of care by promoting safety, stability, and wellbeing through a culturally responsive approach. Using a client-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed framework, it works with agencies and ethnic partners to deliver sustainable outcomes. The program connects children with bilingual workers or carers when possible. It holds contractual duties with DCJ and regulatory responsibilities with the Office of the Children’s Guardian. The carer assessor evaluates foster carers and develops support plans as needed.

As the Carer Assessor your role will be to assess, reassess and review the foster carers’ assessments and create carer development plans. You will be required to support the foster carers where required.

Responsibilities:

  • Target and assess foster carers according to the NSW Child Safe Standards which includes producing comprehensive assessment reports using analytical skills to inform recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Work as a part of a team in a flexible and agile way to meet the needs of carers and children within SSI Permanency Support Program.
  • Work closely with Community Partners including Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and respond to referrals from DCJ.
  • Assist with coordinating the recruitment, training, and assessment of Multicultural Foster Carers.
  • Review carer’s authorisation and complete comprehensive carer review reports including completing carer development plans with carers encompassing training needs.
  • Participate in conducting training for foster carers whilst adhering to SSI Policy and Procedures

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary Education in Social work or relevant qualifications and/or relevant equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children, young people and families.
  • Understanding of and experience in the field of casework, training, PSP, child protection and Foster Care.
  • Well-developed analytical and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience working with culturally & linguistically diverse communities
  • NSW driver’s licence
