Equine Veterinary Nurse

We are an equine and large animal practice seeking a veterinary nurse to join our team and support our veterinarians. Our business has a strong focus on developing and maintaining a supportive caring team. The position will initially be part time with the potential to expand to full time in due course.

The practice mostly serves equine stud clients however we also see a large quantity of lame horses and all other ailments. The position requires someone with a good level of physical fitness to work outdoors handling and trotting up horses. Previous experience with horses and horsemanship skills to control difficult horses is desirable. As we have a range of specialized equipment including digital radiography, ultrasonography video endoscopy, laboratory equipment and autoclaves, the role will involve the preparation, use, care and maintenance of our equipment. The role includes veterinarian support in record keeping and client communication. The role will require a person capable of learning to use our software program and able to communicate with clients.

Qualifications & experience

We do not require specific qualifications however the role requires a person who has experience with horses and is willing and capable of learning a wide range of veterinary and administrative tasks.

Must have a driving license and a vehicle to get to work

Be prepared to work flexible hours including some out of hours emergency support

Emergency work will be on an on-call roster basis

Experience in office administration is an advantage

Experience in organizing, cleaning and maintaining equipment

Self starter who likes to work with some direction, but able to work unsupervised

Must be a happy personality who is flexible, motivated and wants to be part of our team.

Tasks & responsibilities

We are looking for a horseman or horsewoman who is capable of doing a range of tasks from veterinary technical and nursing support, writing up records, managing drug orders and driving.
