We are seeking a skilled Hydrogeologist to join Fortescue's Projects Engineering Team and support the delivery of water resource and hydrogeological projects across multiple mine sites. This Perth-based role (Monday-Friday) may involve occasional site travel and is ideal for someone who enjoys technical assessments, cross-discipline collaboration, and contributing to large-scale resource projects.
About the Role
As part of the Projects Engineering Team, you will take a lead role in delivering hydrogeological assessments and groundwater investigations to support mine water supply, reinjection, and licensing requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring technical assessments and designs meet project objectives, regulatory expectations, and environmental standards while maintaining a strong focus on safety, compliance, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct hydrogeological assessments to support water supply, reinjection, and mine dewatering requirements
Assist in the design of conceptual borefields and groundwater management systems
Plan and manage site investigations for groundwater data collection (quantity, quality, test pumping)
Analyse and manage hydrogeological datasets, ensuring data accuracy and accessibility
Compile technical deliverables, including reports, specifications, project scopes, and risk assessments
Provide input to license and permit applications and support regulatory compliance processes
Facilitate technical reviews, stakeholder engagement, and risk assessments relating to water management
Collaborate with engineers, approvals specialists, consultants, and contractors to deliver integrated project outcomes
Provide technical input to support construction and operational readiness planning
Skills & Experience
Degree in Geology or Environmental Science (MSc/Postgraduate Diploma in Hydrogeology highly regarded)
Minimum 3 years' experience in hydrogeology, groundwater investigations, or water resource management
Strong experience in hydrogeological assessments, drilling programmes, and/or groundwater modelling
Proficiency with GIS (experience with Modflow, Leapfrog, or other hydrogeological software advantageous)
Strong data analysis and management skills, with attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings clearly
Familiarity with Australian water licensing and permitting processes (WA desirable)
Proven ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively across disciplines
Full Australian work rights required
