As an AO7 Senior Right to Information and Privacy Officer, you will be responsible for managing and administering the department's compliance with the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) with reference to all relevant legislation.
The Legal Services team are specialists who provide independent legal advice and documentation related to the core business of the department including public administration matters, right to information, privacy, and judicial review matters.
What you will be doing:
• Exercising decision making power in relation to complex and sensitive applications made under the RTI Act with reference to relevant legislation and other jurisdictional precedent.
• Liaising, consulting, negotiating and providing expert advice under the RTI Act, the IP Act or administrative release processes.
• Providing expert advice on privacy issues affecting the department, assist with responses to privacy complaints and privacy data breaches under the Mandatory Notification Data Breach scheme, and be accountable for the departmental management of external involvement in privacy with other government agencies.
• Managing requests made by Federal and State agencies for legislative and non-legislative access to the departments' information and documents, including by subpoena and non-party discovery; s.134A of the Evidence Act 1977 and the Public Service Regulation 2008.
• Providing advice on the IP Act and the Queensland privacy principles including assistance and general advice in relation to privacy data breaches; privacy complaints and Privacy Impact Assessments.
• Fostering relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including the Offices of the Information and Privacy Commissioners.
