The Role

The Health, Safety, Environmental and Training Advisor plays a crucial role in hazard management, incident response, injury management, auditing, legislative compliance, training, SOP development, procedure review and more.
Your expertise in health and safety practices will drive a 'safety first' culture through impactful initiatives and educational activities. In this role, you will focus on training needs assessment, conducting engaging training sessions, and evaluating outcomes to ensure consistency and excellence in Rockcote’s standards.

Assist our front-line leaders towards achieving 'zero harm' and promote a culture of individual accountability. Working together to enhance work health and safety practices.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to;

Training: Create & coordinate an effective training and development pipeline; utilise training programs to educate on health and safety accountability and encourage a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk mitigation; conduct emergency response, lockout officer and permit issuer training, and safety inductions for new starters, contractors, and subcontractors on site. Assist departments with creation & updates of SOP's.
Risk Management: Conduct regular risk assessments, devise mitigation strategies, including a safety improvement plan and implement. Monitor, report on and close out corrective actions from risk assessments, investigations, and audits ensuring compliance with safety systems.
Incident Investigations: Promptly attend to and investigate incidents, assist frontline leaders with lodging incidents through the safety management system, determine root causes implement corrective and preventative actions, including ensuring adequate procedures are in place to minimise recurrence.
Environmental Compliance: Manage the Environmental plan, ensure compliance with EPA standards, and compliance with air quality monitoring and site waste management.
Policy Development and Compliance: Maintain a working knowledge of relevant safety, health and environment legislation, trends and new initiatives potentially impacting the business and integrate relevant updates into policies, procedures, and training programs.
WorkCover Management: Report incidents to government agencies, collaborate on return-to-work plans, and provide cost-minimising recommendations. Injury management and return to work rehabilitation activities, including liaising with external providers and worker to return to full duties.
Reporting and Communication: Build safety into designs and methods of working, ensuring reports from safety management systems are produced in a regular and timely manner; Monthly reporting to the Leadership Team.
Participate in toolbox meetings, safety walks and checks, Operations and Safety Committee meetings and communicate and provide feedback on safety via appropriate channels (communal e-notice boards, meetings), and produce action plans.
Health Monitoring: Plan and book new starter employment medicals, and periodic silica monitoring medical appointments.
Other: Ensure sufficient first aid and personal protective equipment supplies are available, including high visibility uniforms and re-stock on a regular basis.
Assist our Store Leaders and their teams in our offsite Trade Hubs with WHS compliance support.

About You
You must be able to demonstrate the following experience, abilities, and personal attributes:

Qualifications/Experience:

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally within a manufacturing environment.

Demonstrated experience leading & promoting a safety culture in a complex & diverse environment.

Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety & Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.

Rehabilitation / Return to work or Injury management experience.

Experience in facilitating RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and ICAM investigations (Incident Cause Analysis Method)

Skills and abilities

Knowledge of & the ability to interpret WHS legislation, policies, & procedures.

Experience in the development of preventative strategies to minimise WHS risks in the workplace.

A professional & proactive approach to all aspects of Workplace Health & Safety and provide high level advice across all levels & departments within the company.

Assess problem situations to identify causes, generate possible solutions, & make recommendations.

A strong attention to detail, organised in completing tasks & able to present clear & reliable information.

Understand ethical behaviour and ensure that own behaviour and the behaviour of others is consistent and aligns with the values of the Company.

Experienced in Microsoft office suit (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).

Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance teamwork.
