This local council is looking for a skilled Design Project Manager to join their Infrastructure Planning and Design team. In this role, you’ll manage the design and delivery of important capital works and road infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet high standards of safety, compliance and value for money.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage design projects using internal resources and external consultancies.
• Ensure designs are suitable, compliant and in line with project requirements and design standards.
• Certify schemes as a registered professional engineer (where required).
• Provide advice on design suitability, planning options, materials, systems and construction practices.
• Oversee project delivery, ensuring efficient use of systems, processes and resources.
• Maintain compliance with standards, policies, legislation and best practice.
• Support and coordinate team members, fostering collaboration and a positive work environment.
• Engage with stakeholders, consultants and suppliers, managing expectations and resolving issues.
• Identify and escalate high-risk or sensitive matters in a timely and professional manner.

The Successful Candidate

• Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Architecture or Landscape Architecture.
• Strong knowledge of design principles for public infrastructure and building works.
• Experience preparing and implementing design policies and standards.
• Skills in project financial management, including budgeting, cost control and reporting.
• Proven ability to review and assess designs for quality and compliance.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with strengths in negotiation and conflict resolution.
• Strong organizational and time management skills to manage competing priorities.
• Problem-solving ability to resolve complex technical issues and deliver practical solutions.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (or similar).
• A current “C” class driver’s license.

Highly regarded

• Registration as a Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ), or eligible for registration.
• Membership/registration with the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) or Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA).
