This position qualifies for an annual Recruitment Incentive Package up to the value of $10,000 (conditions apply and may be pro-rata’d to your contracted or ordinary working hours, these payments are paid on a fortnightly basis) under the NSW Health Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme.
This scheme recognises the role key health workers play in enabling the delivery of rural and remote health services, and aims to provide incentives over and above award entitlements, to attract and retain staff in these areas.

What you'll be doing
- The role is designed to ensure individuals residing in Broken Hill and surrounding communities have access to timely and effective MHDA assessment, treatment and counselling for the effects of mental illness, significant psychosocial distress and suicidality, inclusive of high risk civil consumers and people released from custody.
- It is offered in response to ongoing social stressors in these areas including isolation, drought, higher than average unemployment levels, higher than average levels of substance misuse and higher levels of incarceration.

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria in the application as thoroughly as possible:
- Recognised degree in psychology, social work, occupational therapy with eligibility for NSW Registration/Professional Association where relevant.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary adult mental health and or drug and alcohol setting.
- Excellent net-working skills, with the capacity to work effectively with multiple stakeholder groups including people with lived experience of suicide and recovery.
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of evidence based treatment techniques and assessment procedures to mental health and or drug and alcohol consumers in a community setting.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills both written and verbal, with intermediate computer skills, including us of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the recovery model and patient centred care.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a manner that engenders mutual respect in a cross cultural environment.
- Current licence to drive in NSW.

About Far West NSW Local Health District
Bordering three states, Far West Local Health District (LHD) covers 194,949 square kilometres in remote NSW. The LHD is sparsely populated, with 62% of its approximately 30,000 inhabitants living in the Silver City of Broken Hill. The remainder of the population live in agricultural towns along the Murray River, in small remote communities of 80-800 people or on stations throughout the LHD. Far West LHD is the most sparsely populated LHD in NSW and has the highest proportion of Aboriginal residents (9.6%). The population is decreasing, ageing and experiencing significant morbidity related to lifestyle factors and chronic illness.
