  • You are able to tailor your fellowship to a particular subspeciality area of interest

With multiple ANZCA-accredited Fellowship positions available annually, our departments offer exceptional opportunities for professional development as you transition to independent consultant (attending) practice.

The Fellowship experience

Our Anaesthesia Fellowships offer a comprehensive and varied clinical experience across a wide range of surgical subspecialties providing a solid 'generalist' experience.

Our Fellows can also choose to focus their training in one of the following areas:

  • Obstetric Anaesthesia
  • Burns and Reconstructive Surgery
  • Perioperative Medicine
  • Regional Anaesthesia

Our roles are ideally suited for those in their final year of training (or ST6/7), early consultant career (FANZCA, post-CCT), or equivalent. The Fellow experience covers acute surgical theatre work, managing independent elective lists, and contributing to out-of theatre clinical responsibilities, providing a well-rounded, generalist anaesthetic foundation.

As a Fellow, your days will be divided between working alongside an SMO or running your own lists in the capacity of a junior consultant, supported by the duty Anaesthetist.

You are able to tailor your fellowship to a particular subspeciality area of interest. Opportunities exist for protected training time to included rostered time with other specialty services relevant to the candidate's area of interest ie Cardiac Cath Lab.

The rosters include protected training lists as well as non-clinical time for CPD plus Registrar and Anaesthetic Technicians trainee teaching. You'll work occasional afternoon shifts during the week, alongside a registrar. In the second six months of the year additional SMO on call hours will be introduced.
