The Role

Marymead CatholicCare and ACT Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) work in partnership to deliver STEPS. The STEPS program provides 24-hour residential support for up to five young people aged 13 to 18 years who have moderate to severe mental illness. The program is a step up/step down model working within a case management framework to assist young people to identify recovery goals and work towards these with their CAMHS clinician and their other supports, including family. The program services young people across the whole of the ACT.

STEPS operates on a structured rostering system and is currently seeking individuals available to work in specific permanent part-time roles.

As a Mental Health Service Assistant, you will:

support residents to access community, social, and recreational activities.

prompting self-care and personal domestic activities.

assist with transport.

skills development in group and individual settings.

supporting with development of social skills and improved daily living skills.

You will be working with young people in mental distress. This position requires effective time management and administration skills as well as the ability to work efficiently within a specialist youth mental health team. Successful applicants must have a strong belief that all people can achieve outcomes, are values driven and contribute to their community.

We are looking for a permanent part-time staff member to complete the following ongoing shifts, with the opportunity to pick up additional shifts:

Weekly – Monday support shift – 1.30pm – 8.30pm

Weekly – Tuesday day shift – 6.30am – 2.30pm

Fortnightly – Thursday day shift – 6.30am – 2.30pm

Fortnightly – Friday day shift – 6.30am – 2.30pm

About You

The ideal person we are looking for has:

Minimum qualification requirements of Cert IV in Mental Health or higher.

Experience in working with young people with moderate to severe mental illness, preferably in a residential setting.

Demonstrated understanding of mental illness and recovery principles.

Demonstrated experience in responding appropriately in crisis situations.

Sound written and verbal communication and IT&C skills.

Understanding of work health and safety, privacy legislation, and mandatory reporting.

Successful applicants must complete a National Police Check.

You must also hold:

A current driver's licence, and

A Working with Vulnerable People Card (ACT) and/or NSW Working with Children Check.
