As Business Officer (Tides), you will support the completion of datasets and delivery of publications that are essential for:
- safety of navigation and emergency response
- supporting commercial shipping operations, including major stakeholders such as port authorities, industry, and local councils
- mitigating risks such as cargo scheduling disruptions, navigational hazards, and port access issues.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Accurately validate and store tidal recordings and associated tidal station information in the Tides database.
- Support the production of the Queensland tide tables for publication.
- Working as part of a small team and liaising with a range of both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the efficient operations of the unit.
- Assist with the provision of tide predictions, advice and information relating to tidal information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with maintaining and updating the MSQ tide manuals and policies.
- Arrange archiving of tidal and hydrographic data and projects, in accordance with document management processes
- Provide support for the testing and enhancement of the Tides database.
- Assist the Senior Advisor (POVTS) with broader administrative support.
- Assist with the development of, and coordination of reviews to maintain currency of, workplace health and safety (WH&S) documentation, for example, safe work method statements (SWMS), vessel safety management systems (SMS), safety plans and risk assessments of the hydrographic storage rooms.
- Maintain the hydrographic survey equipment inventory.
Highly desirable requirements
- Possess a formal qualification from a recognised tertiary institution in one of the following disciplines; Spatial Science, Oceanography, Marine Science, Environmental Science, Math's/Data Science, or have qualifications and experience which, in the opinion of the General Manager, Maritime Safety Queensland, are deemed suitable.
