We are deeply committed to reconciliation and improving hearing health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As part of this commitment, we are implementing our second Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and are seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Consultant to guide and lead this important work.

Project Background
Audiology Australia is a leading advocate for improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander hearing health and has undertaken initiatives to raise awareness of and advocate for the hearing health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led health initiatives.
As part of its commitment, Audiology Australia is now implementing its second stage of the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), Innovate RAP. The RAP is a strategic document that formalises Audiology Australia’s commitment to reconciliation and outlines practical, measurable outcomes that will help us work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and drive our contribution to reconciliation both internally and in the communities in which we operate.
About the role
The primary purpose of the role is to lead the implementation of the agreed initiatives described in Innovate RAP, to act as an ambassador for the project within and outside of Audiology Australia. The role involves maintaining strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partners and supporting the Audiology Australia team to deliver on key initiatives.
This role will oversee the strategic intent of the RAP project, consulting with the Steering group and the Management Team who will coordinate the implementation of The Plan. Beyond the specific initiatives in the RAP, the role will also advise on broader policy and practices in support of Audiology Australia’s commitment to address Indigenous ear health and to reduce racism across hearing health care.
About You
We are seeking someone who:
Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is recognised by their community.
And/or has strong knowledge of and connections within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Has experience in stakeholder engagement, policy advice, and project delivery.
Brings a collaborative and culturally safe approach to working with organisations and communities.
Is passionate about reconciliation and improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes.
The Contractor is engaged to provide the following services:
(a) To develop policies to address racism and culturally sensitive practice and to support initiatives in our RAP
(b) Consult with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders to ensure that the RAP activities incorporate a diverse range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and perspectives.
(c) In consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders, members and the hearing sector, identify and outline initiatives to advance the RAP areas of relationships, respect, opportunities and governance.
(d) To liaise with the Steering group to ensure the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are represented.
(e) To provide secretariat support the RAP Reference Group (quarterly meetings).
(f) Build partnerships with other organisations, community groups, and/or service providers to develop reconciliation activities that support RAP development and implementation.
(g) Act as an ambassador for the RAP project
(h) Working with the Management team to advise and support the integration of RAP initiatives into our work.
