
Safety and Assurance Manager

As the safety and assurance manager at one of Corrections Victoria's maximum-security facilities, you will lead initiatives to improve safety and wellbeing in a complex custodial environment. You will work closely with leaders, staff, contractors and health and safety representatives to build a safety-first culture and deliver practical solutions that protect people every day.
You will:
Lead the delivery of local safety and wellbeing initiatives that align with departmental strategies and safety regulations.
Drive actions to reduce occupational violence and embed processes that improve staff engagement and safety outcomes.
Conduct incident reviews, workplace inspections and risk assessments, and implement corrective actions.
Coach and mentor leaders, health and safety representatives and staff to improve safety capability and performance.
Work with external stakeholders, including WorkSafe, to develop and maintain best practice approaches to safety.

Victoria has five maximum security correctional facilities. Metropolitan Remand Centre and Dame Phyllis Frost Centre are located in the western suburbs while Melbourne Assessment Prison is in the CBD. Barwon prison and our brand-new facility, Western Plains Correctional Centre, are based near Lara.
What you will bring to your new role
Experience in a complex, high-risk industry is highly desirable along with a diploma in occupational health and safety and current driver's licence so you can travel between sites.
To thrive in the role, you will also have:
Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety laws and systems, and experience putting them into practice.
A passion for safety and proven ability to identify risks and create, deliver and review strategies to prevent them.
Skill in building strong working relationships and engaging confidently with people at all levels to drive cultural change, improve safety and build better workplaces.
A track record of planning for the long term, working well with others, and making sure diverse voices are heard and included.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include national police checks and misconduct screening.
