About the role

Based at our Newstead office, the Policy Advisor will support the Manager, Strategic Policy to shape and deliver legislative, strategic and policy priorities related to national heavy vehicle reform.

Key responsibilities of this role are: (but not limited to)

  • Research, draft and collaborate on policy documentation.
  • Provide evidence-based policy advice to support informed decision-making on a range of legislative, strategic and operational policy matters.
  • Prepare a range of written papers including, policy position papers and options, reports, procedural documentation, and other correspondence.
  • Liaise and consult with government agencies (federal, state and local), industry, community and other stakeholders on strategic or operational matters.
  • Conduct research and analyse complex data, issues and trends. Proactively contribute to the development, implementation, evaluation and continued improvement of strategic policy and legislative frameworks.

Our Strategic Policy team are instrumental in setting regulatory strategy, policy and standards to enhance the safety and productivity of the heavy vehicle industry across Australia.

About You

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Previous Policy Advisor experience or related role within a similar environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with high levels of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the policy development cycle and its application within a regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects to deliver timely and effective results in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated fundamental skills in research, analysis and problem-solving.
